Display : NTSC.& This game is fun for the first few&minutes but then you realize luck&plays much too much of a role in the&outcome. It wouldn't be quite so bad&if you had more than one life but&unfortunately you haven't and if you&make just one unlucky move then that's&it - you're dead. OK, that's the same&as it would be crossing a real%minefield. But who does that for fun?& The principle behind the game is&very simple. To complete a level you&have to make your way, one step at a&time, from the top left of the gridded&play area to the opposite corner. A&set number of hidden mines is placed&on each level which must be avoided at&all costs. The number of mines is&increased with each level. The only&help you get is a number displayed on&the square you're currently occupying.&This tells you how many mines are&hidden in the eight squares&surrounding you. The lower the number!the safer your next step will be.& You can go back over the squares&you've been on so a lot of time is&spent wandering back and forth looking&for a safe way to continue. Eventually&though you have to make a step into&the unknown which of course will&inevitably result in sudden death some&time in the game, and most likely
sooner than later.& A simpler game is hard to imagine&and anyone with a smattering of Basic&could knock up a version in a matter&of hours but this one at least wins in&it's presentation. Everything is&nicely drawn, the sound is good and&it's easy to understand and use. Full&marks in the look and feel department at least.& Since luck plays such an important&part in this game, having it go your&own way occasionally would be nice.&Ladders as well as the snakes, so to&speak. Treading on something that gave&you a little help now and then would&make it a bit less frustrating. But as&Landmine is now, the bad luck comes
